The 2nd edition of the ASEAN-India Car Rally to take place from 26 November – 20 December 2012. It will start from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with a ceremonial flag-off in Singapore and wind its way through 8 of the 10 ASEAN countries before finally ending in New Delhi.
The proposed 8,000 km-long Car Rally route will also cover the Northeastern states of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. The members of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) are Singapore,Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and India.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the ASEAN-India dialogue partnership and the 10th anniversary of ASEAN-India Summit-level partnership, India is hosting the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit in New Delhi on December 20-21, 2012. The theme of the summit is ‘ASEAN-India Partnership for Peace and Shared Prosperity’. Two flagship events being organized as part of the commemorative year events are the Shipping Expedition of INS Sudarshini to ASEAN countries and the ASEAN-India Car Rally, 2012.
The first leg of the ASEAN-India Car Rally took place in 2004 and was held in 8 countries covering over 8000 km and included 240 participants with 60 vehicles.
