Angellica Aribam from Manipur, who is one of the National Secretaries of NSUI and also Executive Councillor in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), was the lone speaker from the entire Northeast region in the All India Congress Committee (AICC)’s meeting held in Jaipur on January 20, 2013.
Despite the presence of many top Ministers/politicians from the region attending the general meeting, the 20-year old Angellica, who hails from Moidangpok under Imphal West district, was the only northeastern person invited to address the delegation of over 1700 people including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, AICC President Sonia Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders.
The LLB student from Delhi University, spoke on the topic of “Bridging the Gap with North East”. In her presentation, Angellica highlighted the issues of racial discrimination and atrocities being carried out on people of northeast origin in different parts of the country and the urgent need to spread awareness about various northeast culture to the rest of the country.
