On March 26, 2013. Dalai Lama will inaugurate the Buddha Park of Ravangla, situated near Rabong in South Sikkim. The Tibetan spiritual leader will also unveil a 135-feet tall statue of Lord Buddha installed in the park on the same occasion.
The Buddha Park has been developed at a cost of Rs 35 crore, It is home to a Buddhist circuit. Buddhist devotees from Southeast Asian countries have been flocking to Sikkim in recent years, after it was being built there.
The statue of Lord Buddha was established in the year of 2006, on the occasion of the 2550th birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha through joint efforts of the Sikkim government and its local people.
Ravangla has a sizeable Tibetan community, and the Ralang monastery is located 6 km away from Ravangla.
