Dalmia Cement to invest Rs 5 bn in Northeast

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd of the Dalmia Group, plans to invest Rs 5 bn over the next two years for expanding its facilities in the northeast India (Reported by the international cement review portal cemnet.com).

The New Delhi- based Cement manufacturer has already acquired two units in the region — a 76 per cent stake in Calcom Cement Ltd in Assam for equity value of Rs 315 crore and secured full ownership of the Meghalaya-based Adhunik Cement Ltd for Rs 560 crore last year.

Adhunik operates a 1.5 million tonne a year cement plant, which is one of the largest in the North East.

According to India Brand Equity Foundation, the North East has consistently been a cement deficit region over several years and at present, cement demand is about 5.2 million tonnes per annum whereas the supply is 3 million tonne per annum.

Five-time world champion boxer Mary Kom is currently its national brand ambassador.
