This Elderly Assamese Couple Tying the Knot Will Restore Your Belief in Love

An elderly Assamese couple tied the knot in Guwahati on Wednesday and is heading off to Shillong for their honeymoon next week.

73-year-old bride Shantanu Kumar Das and the groom Manju Sinha Roy, aged 63, are boarders at the Old Age Home in Guwahati. They started an affair within days of their arrival at the Home in 2012, reported The Indian Express.

“Over 2,000 people from different walks of life attended their marriage and the guests were offered vegetarian ‘thalis’. The newlywed couple would be staying here in the home for the rest of their lives,” the Old Age Home’s secretary Monika Sarma said.

Das, who hails from Karimganj district, is a retired engineer whose wife passed away a few years back. While the groom had lost her parents a long time back and was staying at her brother’s house. She was never married and she came to the Home after her brother’s demise.
