Fashion and Northeast India is synonymous

It is a widely accepted fact that Fashion and Northeast India are synonymous. Why? Perfect question. I do have an answer — only, I can’t guarantee that it’s equally perfect.

It is a well known fact that in the North East , one gets to see very well dressed and elegant girls and also boys sporting the latest hairstyles.

In fact , fashion in North East is not just a modern trend—but, it has been present since a long, long time. This is due to the fact that in the Northeast itself we have more than 400 communities—each unique and magnificent in it’s own way, in fact, giving an identity to Asian Fashion worldwide.

The beautiful and exquisite handmade jewelry, made of bronze and stones, the hand-woven fabric, elaborate swords, spears and other weaponry , along with colourful headgears—all these enhance the beauty and distinctive style of the North East. People have had numerous ways to describe us since time immemorial. But I like to think we were (and still are) very “fashion forward”.

I mean, who knew then, that we need headgears and accessories to match our clothes? No, let me rephrase the question. Who knew, living amongst the wilderness then, (years and years ago), how to dress up in the real sense ? Pat comes the reply “US”.

So, it’s only understandable that we carry on the legacy passed on by our forefathers. And… We Are Doing A Great Job! We have come a Long , Long way. People nationwide appreciate and acknowledge our efforts. Be it our bloggers, designers, models, fashion photographers– we have a super scale range of talent in terms of Fashion.

Fashion in India is growing by leaps and bounds which makes it an easy market, but equally difficult to break into. Online stores and blogs are popular on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, many of which are run or maintained by people from the Northeast. Even in Metropolitan cities, you can easily identify them. They might be clad in simple jeans and T-shirt but look again, maybe there’s something different about their hair. Or maybe it’s just in the air (I just like it since it rhymes). It’s true. Somehow they stand out in a crowd. Like they say about fashion and a distinctive style of an individual-it’s not only about having fashionable clothes and accessories, its also knowing how and when to wear them.

Experimentation is our God given gift. We don’t always follow trends , but we set them too.

I’d like to end with a quote “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.” — Gianni Versace.

Until Next time…Stay Fashionable.
