Foreign models back Irom Sharmila protest

Seven foreign models on Thursday came forward to expressed solidarity  for the world’s longest hungry striker – Irom Sharmila. The human rights crusader has refused food and water since November 2000, demanding repeal of the controversial military law – Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

According to the Telegraph, the models are in Imphal to walk the ramp in tonight’s fashion event “Elegance of the Dancing Looms” at Bhagyachandra open air theatre in Imphal.

The fashion parade aimed to promote a collection of indigenous handloom products with modern chic designed by nine upcoming designers of Manipur.

During the rehearsal conducted yesterday, the models wore Just Peace Foundation‘s black T-Shirts with Sharmila’s picture and the slogan – Repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, holding placards reading “We are with you” and “We support you” slogans.
