In their bid to save the Assam’s wildlife, thousands of young and aged wildlife enthusiasts and animal lovers participated in “The Great Save Rhino Walkathon 2013” on Sunday – to raise awareness for protecting the one-horned rhinoceros in the state.
The Great Save Rhino Walkathon 2013 is an endeavour by Kaziranga University in association with the Department of Forest and Govt. of Assam. Walked an extra mile for saving the endangered animal, that is pride of Assam, started from Jorhat District Sports Association’s field to the university campus in Jorhat city.
Member of Parliament Bijoy Krishna Handique flagged off the rally. Thousands of spectators queued on both side of the road to cheer the walkers. A huge crowd waving ‘Save Rhino’ banners and posters followed the walkers.
The Kaziranga University to also take this cause further and held it as an annual event of the university.
