The 6-day Bharat Rang Mahotsav International Theatre Festival of India was inaugurated at The Shrine Playhouse of Chorus Prefecture in Imphal yesterday. The festival is the first International theatre festival to be held in the State since the staging of Asian festival by the Chorus Repertory Theatre some 20 years back, added The Sangai Express.
The festival was opened with a 50 minute solo performance titled ‘The women who didn’t want to come down to Earth’ by Israel’s Tel Aviv based theatre group-Gabrielle Neuhaus Physical Theater’s playwright and director Gabrielle which received standing ovation from the crowds.
A total of five plays including Pampa Bharata(Karnataka), Utushi (Japan), Those who could not hear the Music (WestBengal), Tamasha (Maharashtra) and Sindu Kirlli (Sri Lanka) will be performed during the ongoing festival which was founded in 1999 by the National School of Drama to contribute to the growth of theatre across the country.
After the Imphal leg, the same festival will travel to Guwahati starting from January 12 .
