If nothing else, 2016 will be remembered as a year of grand revelations for massive Bollywood’s interest in India’s Northeast region. It’s safe to say that the popular Indian cinema industry has taken quite a daring tramp to anchor with the mainstream audience about this once neglected region and its people.
Bollywood’s gigantic stars – John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra has been recently roped in as the official brand ambassadors of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh tourism respectively.
In recent times, the biographical sports drama film “Mary Kom” starring Priyanka Chopra, the top 8th highest paid TV actress on Forbes 2016 list, who played the title role of ace boxing legend from Manipur, not only did it swept away at the Indian box offices, but had won an array of awards.
Rolling up another disclosure, the “Paan Singh Tomar” actor Irrfan Khan, is the latest cinematic persona from the Bollywood world who is all set to make his debut film in the Northeast. He will portray a lead role in the untitled romantic travelogue film to be directed by Tanuja Chandra.
“The upcoming flick will capture the protagonist’s journey through the scenic locations of Sikkim, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand”, the Indian actor told Times of India. The Kriarj Entertainment and Zee Studio’s movie is slated to begin its shooting production this October.
The much-awaited Bollywood film “Rangoon” set against the backdrop of World War II, starring Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles, was also filmed in Arunachal Pradesh and will be releasing on 24 February 2017.
