Five-time World Champion and Olympic-winning boxer Mary Kom will be seen in an upcoming animated avatar on India’s first girl superhero series, titled “Mary Kom Jr”, which is likely to hit the satellite cable this winter.
According to The Hindu, “The 32-year-old boxer have signed up a licensing deal with production company ScreenYug for the series based on her life to motivate the girl child and help them take more responsibility to be confident and strong.”

“Most Indian parents usually doesn’t encourage fighting games for their girl child but with all the crime going around, their eyes are now open and this will help, as the animation series will focus on self-defence, which is very relevant in today’s times,” Ms. Kom said.
“The girl superhero animated series will have a Manipuri tingi by capturing the fiction life of a young Mary Kom while in school, we will have other characters with a more neutral tone in order to appeal to the global audience,” producer Ashish S Kulkarni said.
Former CEO of Reliance Big Animation, Kulkarni has created many big—ticket projects like “Little Krishna”, “Shaktimaan”, “Krishna Aur Kans” and “Big Bees” among others.
