Mumbai Hosts Colour of North East Festival 2015

In a continuing effort to promote the culture and tourism of the Northeast region, a one-day event ‘Colors of North East’  festival was held at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai on August 1, as part of the annual North East Festival series to create national awareness, and also invite filmmakers to explore the region as the next filmmaking destination.

The glittering gala evening witnessed a special performance by Grammy Award nominees “The Monks of Bomdila”, with their unique multi-phonic chanting. The festival line-up included The Abiogenisis, Violinist Sunita Khound featuring Angarag Mahanta and Anaya Brahma, and Papon, the Bollywood icon from Assam.

Acclaimed Mumbai based fashion designer Vaishali, Assamese designer Kankana Konwar, and Meghalaya’s designer Daniel Syiem, showcased ethnic fabrics and contemporary traditional wear of the region. Assamese supermodel and actress Dipannita Sharma dazzled in a pretty spectacular silky fallow and vibrant hue dress became an instant showstopper.

Amongst the list of special guests who attended the three-hour tinsel show were Bollywood filmmakers Kiran Rao, Anurag Basu, Ronnie Lahiri, Mehul Singhania and Shekhar Gupta, and Industrialists Krishna Kumar and Adi Godrej also graced the occasion.
