Pune City FC Midfielder Eugeneson Lyngdoh was awarded All India Football Federation (AIFF) men’s Player of the Year trophy, while striker Bala Devi was announced women’s best player for a second successive time in the AIFF Annual General Body Meeting held at Margao in Goa on Sunday.
The Coaches of I-League clubs voted Lyngdoh the best player of the year for 2015. His trophy announcement comes with a cash prize of Rs two lakh. This Meghalaya born football star has ended Sunil Chettri’s two-year hold on the title to begin his own reign. During ISL 2015 players bidding auction, Pune City FC signed him for 1.05 crores.
25-year old Bala Devi from Manipur, the 2015 AIFF Woman Footballer of the Year would be presented a prize of Rs. 1 lakh besides a trophy. She scored 16 goals in 5 matches in the SAFF Women’s Championship in Pakistan which led to India winning the gold medal last year. In 2005, Bala Devi played her first match for India in the U-17 age group.
Meanwhile, Manipuri referee Sapam Kennedy was also honoured with 2015 AIFF Award for Best Assistant Referee for a second successive year.
