Official Helpline and Facebook Page launched for North East people in Chandigarh

As a safety measure to provide timely help to the people from Northeast residing in Chandigarh and nearby areas, after the recent incident where five Sikkimese students were allegedly assaulted by a group of students from Himachal Pradesh over racist remarks a week ago.

Chandigarh administration on Friday launched a dedicated toll-free helpline number 1800-180-2130 and Facebook page ‘Chandigarh Administration for the people of Northeast’ to safeguard the rights and freedom of the people of North East, who are often subjected to racial discrimination in India.

Deputy Commissioner of UT Chandigarh, Ajit Balaji Joshi, has constituted a committee comprising of Tapasya Raghav, SDM (E) and DSP, Roshan Lal as the nodal officer, along with the representatives of the North-East community.

Similiar helpline numbers for the Northeast community has been already introduced in Delhi and Mumbai following the death of Nido Tania last year.
