The Bollywood heartthrob has agreed to be the face of the United Sikkim Football Club to help the struggling club in their debut season in the I-League. Bhaichung Bhutia, co-owner of the Sikkim’s only professional FC told The Times of India, “We are proud to unveil Ranbir Kapoor as our brand ambassador. We have known each other for quite some time. He is a keen follower of football.”
The former India captain discussed the proposal with the actor during the charity football match between actors and cricket players held in New Delhi last Saturday.
“Ranbir, who is self-proclaimed fan of Spanish giants Barcelona, was invited as a special invitee of club president Sandro Rosell to watch the El Clasico match between Barcelona and Real Madrid in October and even had a chance to speak to Lionel Messi”, writes goal.com.
The club’s new ambassador has recorded a video message for the team wishing them luck in their fight to win I-League.
In India, due to existence of stereotype, for bollywood and cricket, which get all the attention and coverage. Now football clubs are looking to bollywood and cricket superstars to act as brand ambassadors in a hope of drawing crowds to matches and earn decent endorsement as well.
