Sikkim celebrates its first Senior Citizens Day

To give a boast for the senior citizens above 70 years of age to reunite with old friends and celebrate a memorable twinkle of old-good days.

Melli Dara Paiyong GPU in association with District Health Society (NRHM), Namchi organised its first annual “Senior Citizens Day”, with a social reunion event and Health check-up camp on February 7, 2013 at Namchi in Sikkim.

On the occasion graced by MLA Tulsi D. Rai as the chief guest, saw a health check-up of close to five hundred senior citizens  turned up and were nursed by the doctors from the nearby District Hospital, Namchi.

Six most elderly citizens from each GPU of the constituency were gifted traditional Scarves (Khadas) and Shawls, along with walking sticks. A senior legal advisor educated the gathering on the constitutional rights of the senior citizens above 60 years of age.

Later in the afternoon, They could be seen greeting warmly, sharing experiences with their friends and tapping to the old tunes entertained by a Kalimpong based band.
