Sikkim Actress wins Los Angeles Film Festival 2013 award

Sikkim actress Geetanjali Thapa has bagged “Best Performance in Narrative Competition’ award for her role in Kamal K.M’s I.D at Los Angeles Film Festival 2013.

She is notably the first Sikkimese lady to fetch a lead role in Bollywood, portraying a character of Charu in the much-acclaimed film “I.D.” that has won seven awards at various film festival across the globe so far. Thapa had earlier won the award for ‘Best Actress’ at Imagineindia International Film Festival, Madrid.

The official website of the film narrates the plot;

[blockquote] She played a carefree young woman character named Charu who lives in Mumbai with her friends in a rented apartment. One day her friends hired a labourer to paint a soiled wall at her apartment. A few minutes later, the man falls unconscious, Charu discovers that she alone have to attend this stranger, first getting him to the hospital and then trying to discover who he was or even his name.[/blockquote]

The model-turned-actor Geetanjali’s debut featured film is ‘Myth’ made in Sikkim, while still at school in 2006. She made her first mark in Hindi films with “Tina Ki Chabi” as a lead actress playing opposite Ranvir Shorey and directed by Amit Saxena.

Geetanjali Thapa had won the beauty pageant Mega Miss North East 2007. Her three upcoming films namely Monsoon Shootout by Amit Kumar, Liar’s Dice by Geetu Mohandas and White Lies by Danis Tanovicm, is still waiting to be released later this year.
