Tongam Rina selected for German Media Award

Tongam Rina, Associate Editor of the Arunachal Times who was critically injured in a murder attempt by gunmen on July 15 last year, is among six journalists across the globe selected for an prestigious German media award “Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media 2013” by Media Foundation in Germany.

The award instituted in 2001, which carries a prize of 30,000 Euros, has been supporting journalists, publishers and institutions who is committed to the freedom and future of the media, will be presented to all the laureates on October 8 at Leipzig in Germany.

Earlier, Tongam Rina was honoured with the Laadli Media Award 2011-12 for Gender Sensitivity in November last year at Kolkata.

As senior reporter of a leading local daily – The Arunachal Times in Arunachal Pradesh, she reports on various socio-political issues and corruption within local authorities, the questionable construction of dams and environmental scandals among many others.
