Young Manipur Climber Bagged Gold at Asian Youth Championship 2015

13-year-old climber Maibam Chingkheinganba from Manipur made the country proud after winning two medals (gold and silver) at 2015 Asian Youth Sport Climbing Championship in Putrajaya, Malaysia held from December 2 to 6.

According to CatchNews, the teen scaled the 55-feet-high speed wall in a mere 13.27 seconds against tough competitors from China and Japan to emerge at the top spot in the Youth C (10-13 years) speed category of the event.

He was part of the six-member Indian contingent who bagged four medals in the championship organised by International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

In October, he also grabbed 3 gold medals at the 21st North East Zone Sports Climbing Championship 2015 held in Agartala, Tripura. An avid football fan and wishes to qualify and compete in the Olympic games for India in the near future.

His older brother Ningombam Chitrasen, a national-level climber, introduced him to sport climbing five years ago. After finishing his school work at Kendriya Vidyalaya, he practises for about four hours every day.
