The 26-year-old fashion designer from Nagaland, Ikali Sukhalu who won the ‘Best Designer’ of Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) Award 2013 held on September 28 in Dimapur, was also assigned a life-time opportunity to present her designs at the upcoming New York Couture Fashion Week to be held in February 2014.
According to Morung Express source, the young Naga designer, along with two other shortlisted Indian designers will represent the country at the haute glitzy fashion parade.
Ikali Sukhalu began her career studying fashion design at Wigan & Leigh College in Mumbai. Upon graduating from WLC with a Advance Diploma in Fashion Technology. She moved to UK and studied Access to HE Fashion Business at London College of Fashion, UK.
Ikali Sukhalu had the opportunity to work in design for one of the industry’s most influential designers Katherine Elizabeth Millinery. Prior to that, she had worked for Drastha Designs as Assistant stylist for the reality show Indian Idol 2008 and also did a stint as Additional Costume Assistant for the film ‘The Mole’ the same year, and worked with Lakme Fashion Week 2006-2008.
The invaluable experience gained from working within these design houses inspired Ikali Sukhalu to fulfill her lifelong dream and launch her eponymous line, Nadia & Ikali Designs (Mumbai).
